1. Easy Matatu (the “Company”) provides a platform for connecting commuters to safer, more reliable and cleaner transportation. When a commuter uses our service, they put their personal data with us and it’s our commitment to keeping the trust through our standard privacy practices.  
    2. Our Privacy Notice helps you to understand the personal data we collect, how it’s used and shared, and the choices you have regarding this data. We recommend that you read and understand all our key points regarding our privacy practices.
    1. Scope: This privacy notice applies to all users of the different Easy Matatu Services ranging from the Mobile Apps, Websites accessible via https://easymatatu.com and its subdomains and all other services. The notice gives a description of how we as Easy Matatu collect and use your personal data and specifically applies to the following categories of people:
      • Commuters: Those persons who request to use Easy Matatu services including all those who use the transport requested by others on their behalf. 
      • Drivers: Those persons who are registered with us to provide transport services to our registered commuters. 
    2. Data Controller: Easy Matatu is the data controller for all the personal data collected for purposes of the use of all Easy Matatu provided services. 

We collect and process the following Personal Data about you:

  • The information generated through the use of our services such as location, application usage and device data 
  • Data from other sources such as other users accounts, partner companies, government agencies, insurance and financial institutions.

  1. User-Provided Information 
    1. User profile: The information which is collected as the user creates their profile includes; Your name, address, date of birth, Gender, mobile telephone number, Location Data, Photo, Identification Documents (National ID or Passport). 
    2. Background Check information: For drivers that signup to provide services to our commuters, we carry out background checks and from these we collect information such as license status, current and previous addresses, identity verifications and criminal records as guided by the laws and regulations. 
    3. Customer Contact: If you contact our Customer Services Department, we may keep a record of that correspondence, including copies of e-mails and your e-mail address. We may also monitor or record any telephone calls made to our Customer Services Department for quality assurance. 
    4. Information that you provide by filling in forms on our mobile app and on the website accessible form while contacting us; this includes information provided at the time of registering to use our app, subscribing to our products and services, posting material or requesting further products or services. We may also ask you for information when you report a problem through any of our customer contact channels.
    5. Details of the different travel routes you take using our application and the different drivers across the different areas within our coverage. 
  2. Data Collected through use of our services:
    1. Location Data: If and only if you permit us to do so, we collect location data to provide our drivers with approximate location data for pickup and stop points during the transit of our commuters. This data is collected when the Easy Matatu application is running on the user mobile device and a service has been requested. You may enable or disable device location services when you use our service at any time by way of your device settings.
    2. Transaction information: We collect information related to the services the user has requested for using either the app or the website. The payment transaction information is also collected plus use of any existing offers or promotion codes. The following payment processes are used to ensure a safe and secure payment process. 
    3. Electronic Payments: We Provide paid products and or Services . IN this case we use third party services for payment processing(e.g. payment processors). We will not store or collect your payment details(card or password etc). That information is provided directly to our third party payment processors whose use for your personal information is governed by their privacy policy as linked here.     4. Services usage data: We collect information regarding the usage or interaction with any of our services. The data collected in this category includes data and time, features used, pages viewed, system activity records. Some of this information is collected through cookies as guided by our Cookie Notice. 
    5. Communications data: To enable efficient provision of services, we enable users of our applications to communicate with each other through the mobile application where for example we enable drivers and commuters to communicate. We as Easy Matatu receive the data regarding the communications which is used as per our data usage notice. 
    1. Cookies are small text files that are stored on browsers or devices by websites, apps, online media and advertisements. As Easy Matatu, we use cookies as an identification mechanism on our application and website, emails and online advertisement for the purposes listed below. 
      • Authenticating users
      • Remembering user preferences and settings
      • Determining the popularity of content
      • Delivering and measuring the effectiveness of advertising campaigns
      • Analyzing site traffic and trends, and generally understanding the online behaviors and interests of people who interact with our services
  1. We may collect information about your computer and mobile phone, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration. This is statistical data about a user’s browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.
  2. You may refuse to accept Cookies by activating the setting on your browser which allows you to refuse the setting of Cookies. However, if you select this setting you may be unable to access certain parts of our website. Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse Cookies, our system will issue Cookies when you log on to our website.
  1. Data Sharing and Disclosure 

Some of the services we provide our customers require that we share personal information with other users or at the request of the. We may also share such data with our affiliates and partners for purposes of delivering our services or legal reasons in connection with claims and dispute resolution. Easy Matatu may share personal data as below;

  1. With Other users such as commuters that need to use a driver or driver to provide a service to a commuter. 
  2. At the user’s request: This includes 
    • Sharing data with other people at the user’s request
    • Easy Matatu Business partners 
    • Emergency Services 
  3. With our service providers for purposes such as payment processing, background checks, social media companies, consultants, lawyers, insurance and financing partners, 
  4. For legal reasons when required by applicable laws and regulations.
  5. With user consent if we notify the user and they consent to the sharing.
  1. Data Retention 
    • All user information is retained by Easy Matatu for as long as the data is needed for the prescribed purposes above. A user can request to have their accounts deleted from the system and Easy Matatu is mandated to retain the user data after deletion as per the legal and regulatory requirements. 
    • Easy Matatu shall retain user data for as long as necessary for the purposes described above. This means that we retain different categories of data for different periods of time depending on the type of data, the category of user to whom the data relates and the purposes for which we collected the data.
  2. Data Security. 
    • Any information sent to us is encrypted (scrambled) using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) an industry standard encryption technology that protects your Personal Data whilst being sent over the internet from being intercepted and misused by third parties. 
    • All data that reaches us is stored on a secure server with access granted to only authorized company personnel. We will hold your personal data for as long as necessary to provide the services, products or information you have requested and to administer your business relationship with us.
    • Where your data is processed in accordance with a data processing agreement between us, we will comply with all specified data deletion requirements. Otherwise, we will delete your personal data from our systems if we have not had any meaningful contact with you (or, where appropriate, the company you are working for or with) for 2 years (or for such longer period as we believe in good faith that the law or relevant regulators require us to preserve your data). After this period, it is likely your data will no longer be relevant for the purposes for which it was collected.
    • The personal data that we collect may be transferred and processed in a data center outside Uganda. Easy Matatu ensures that at all times such offshore destinations are located within States that have laws similar to the protection offered by Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act (2019). Easy Matatu further implements and maintains secure security technical and organisational measures to protect all data processed outside Uganda including ensuring that data processors are contracted in compliance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act (2019).
    • We will also monitor compliance with such security measures for the lifetime of our contractual relationship with the third party. Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password which enables you to access certain parts of our website or mobile application, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

  • Connection you to your preferred taxi route at the preferred time
  • Connecting you to passenger along your registered 
  • The administration of your Account by the Customer Services Department,
